We’ve Arrived!
Day 3 – Friday, January 20, 2012
Here it is Friday and we are still in the air. Fourteen hours from LA to Sydney. Have nice roomy seats anyway…not like the flight to LA. Don’t really know what time it is now…just that it is 11 am Thursday, Rockford time. When the captain announced that we had landed, the plane erupted in applause. He responded with “all stand up”. We arrived in Sydney Friday at 7:30 am. Long walk to the next flight. Had to go through security again. Flight attendants were really good with helping us with the heavy medical bag!! One of the import personnel took sympathy on us and showed us a shortcut through security.
Arrived in Auckland at 2:30 pm. Another airport employee took us under her wing and got us a ride on a cart to customs.

Had a shuttle ride to our hotel. Driver was missing right arm, but had a double hook that he must have operated with his brain since it was attached to a wire in his ear. Feeling exhausted, in need of a shower and ready for bed.

Day 1 – Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Sandy and Conny took us to the 2:00 pm bus to O’Hare and our trip began.

Things were a little confusing for us as airports and flying has changed since we last flew. Think it could be that we are a bit older and less adaptable? Saved by a very pleasant young lady who took us under her wing, brought us a wheelchair and brought us through the employee security which went very quickly. Wheelchairs do bring you special privileges. Dick started to have low blood sugar so we first stopped for a bottle of orange juice and then on to the food court where we had a salad. Dick would have struggled with that long walk. Discovered my battery was dead in my phone and had no time to email or call. Flight attendants were very helpful with our large, heavy medical bag. Easy transfer in LA and allowed to board first.
